Fábricas
Deco

Fabricas Deco started
producing wooden caskets in April 1992. In January
2000, Fabricas Deco established the metal casket
division, with the purpose of manufacturing caskets
for the national and U.S. market.
Because of the national and
international expansion GDN has had in the recent
years and the large amounts of caskets needed
everyday, GDN saw a great opportunity to
manufacture its own caskets and strengthen its
vertical integration.
Apart from its internal
necessities, the demand for metal caskets in the
U.S. has been increasing notoriously mainly because
of law regulations, which allow consumers to buy
their own caskets wherever they wish to, and not
directly from the funeral home where their markups
go up to 300%. Because of these changes, new
channels of distribution have been established to
commercialize these products such as e-commerce and
large retailers.
Fabricas Deco currently
provides metal caskets to the company's funeral
homes and will start to export them to the U.S.
during the year 2000.
